How many RTO Codes in Haryana?
Haryana has more than 96 RTOs that carry out all transport-related activities in the state.
Why some cities have multiple RTO Codes?
Each RTO code is assigned to a specific area or region. Some cities have multiple RTO codes because they have multiple areas or regions that are covered by different RTOs.
The factors that determine the number of RTO codes for a city are the size of the city, the number of vehicles registered in the city, and the geographical area covered by the city.
Ambala is an example of a city that has multiple RTO codes. It has four RTOs which are HR54, HR85, HR37, and HR01.
How to register a vehicle in Haryana?
There are two types of vehicle registration in Haryana RTO Office:
- Temporary Vehicle Registration: It is allowed in cases where the owner of the vehicle has to take it to any other state. Temporary Vehicle Registration is not renewable and is valid only for 1 month.
- Permanent Vehicle Registration: Under Section 39 of the Motor Vehicle Act, permanent registration of all vehicles is necessary for driving on roads in Haryana.
Normally when you buy a new vehicle in Haryana, RTO registration and Charges are done by the dealer itself but in case you want to get it done by yourself then below is the process:
- The dealer will take required documents for registration (as per rule 4 of CMVR, 1989) from the vehicle owner.
- The dealer will submit online form 20 (Application for Registration) to the concerned RA.
- The concerned RA will verify the documents and approve the application.
- After approval, the dealer will receive a registration number and a registration certificate.

What is the validity of vehicle registration in Haryana?
A non-transport (personal) vehicle is registered for a period of 15 years and after completion of 15 years, every registered owner is required to get the certificate of registration renewed. The certificate of registration is renewed for a period of 5 years at a time.
